Chinese Cultural Center/Offices, Rockefeller Center
Office Renovation and Upgrade
In conjunction with the renovation of the Taipei Theater & Gallery Ting + Li Architects was also selected to design the offices of the Chinese Cultural Information Center at Rockefeller Center. With the primary function of developing a cultural exchange through educational programs in Chinese history, language and customs, the project required a complete gut and renovation of the vacant office space. The cultural center is designed to be a place that would encourage people of all ages to learn and gain a deeper understanding of China and it’s current transformation. The library, reading room, periodical room, and classrooms were located near the reception area for easy public access and supervision. Ting + Li Architects provided interior design services setting the library as the main focal point. The challenge was to design the space without requiring significant and costly structural reinforcement, while creating custom woodwork that unites the shelving, reading areas, circulation desk, and wall mounted displays. Additional components of the design include sprinkler and lighting systems, new mechanical and electrical distributions, and minor structural support.
