Adaptive Reuse for Transitional Patient Care
Building #74 is a three-story structure with a full basement situated on the campus of Creedmoor Psychiatric Center. Originally constructed in 1925, the design includes major exterior repairs and a complete gut of the interiors and conversion of the existing building into transitional housing with 157 studio apartments, administrative offices, and auxiliary support service spaces. The facility is funded by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) and planned for use by three non-profit agencies. The mission is to create temporary housing for discharge-ready adults who are patients at the Psychiatric Center. The layout and design of the building supports a care program where the patients develop skills to acclimate to life outside the center. The building design is in compliance with New York State Building Code, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, and UFAS. The design is features a comprehensive exterior wall restoration, roof and water-proofing upgrades, landscaping, full accessibility design, new elevators, three commercial kitchens with patient dining facilities, complete institutional grade mechanical/electrical/ plumbing/fire alarm systems.
